“I was a very, very quiet kid growing up. The media raised me, TV raised me. So, I guess my parents just let me watch TV. I watch loads of TV and I enjoy that. Those were like my companions growing up, lots of TV characters, my companions growing up,” he revealed.

“L -O -V -E. I Love people, man. That is for me, man. I can… I love people. I’m just going to put my heart into everything, man, and that’s because I want to be loved, too. It’s not like I’m this perfect angel. No. I like being loved. And it’s such a good feeling when you’re loved. So, I like to reciprocate that to other people,” he said.

Not content with his success, Kayode Kasum took it upon himself to nurture and empower new voices in the Nigerian film industry.
“It’s amazing to be able to pioneer and work with a telecommunication company and work in ways that are also enhancing and supporting new talent in the country and finding and inspiring them with my brand,” Kasum explains with a big smile on his face.
As a judge on the prestigious Techno Young Directors Award show, he provides aspiring filmmakers with the platform and encouragement they need to flourish.
“It’s fulfilling. I feel blessed. I’m happy that we’re doing it again. We’ve done it for three years now and it’s amazing. It’s full-circle stuff. It’s amazing. I wish I had more words to describe it but it’s like a big hug.” he added.
Humble amidst Acclaim
Despite reaching success and collaborating with renowned actors, including Shola Shobowale, RMD, Nse Ikpe Etim, and Falz the Bad Guy, Kayode Kasum remains remarkably humble. His genuine character and down-to-earth demeanour endear him to everyone working with him.
“It’s a good thing to feel like you’ve achieved something, but I don’t want to think about it too much. It’s like a principle that does not help me to be proud. But I am proud of myself.”
From "Obaram" to New Horizons
Among his notable works, “Obaram”(Which he got to show abroad) holds a special place in Kasum’s heart, dedicated to his late father. This emotionally charged film explores themes of unity and the human experience, leaving a profound mark on all who experience its magic.
“Yeah, just because of that like, I wanted to make a film that shows how death can bring people together. And anyway, I made a film about a lot of things. There are just thoughts and memories about my father that kind of just inspired that film. And yeah, that’s why it’s so special and close to my heart.”

“I will not stop trying to be better. I will also not stop trying new things. So sometimes you might see some new genres or some new types of films that I will try.
You might not like it. It’s just Kayode being Kayode regardless. But yeah, I’m still going to make the films you like. I know them, I hear them, I hear you when you talk about them. I will keep making them”.
