Without a single doubt, Yes!
The Grammy is the biggest award globally that people recognize and most musicians look forward to. It’s a big deal for the Nigerian music industry – which is why Nigerians were overjoyed when Burna Boy and Wizkid bagged awards at the 2021 Grammy awards. Burna Boy had won the “Best Global Music Album” category, while Wizkid had won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé, Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album.
In Burna’s words after his win,
This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world. This should be a lesson to every African out there: No matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it.
Burna Boy
More than just bragging rights, what these wins mean is that the world is beginning to notice Nigerian creatives. Burna’s win at the 63rd Grammy Awards makes him the second Nigerian to win a Grammy. This win is some sort of validation and acknowledgment of hard work put in Nigerian creatives. Nigerians are on the map, and it is also a cool ticket to history lane.
Last year, we predicted Burna’s win at the Grammy, and we’re glad to see this come to light. A huge congratulations to all the winners and nominees. We hope that this brings more exposure for our artistes and the creative industry in general.
