Creative Round-Up: Elon Musk Announces Twitter To Begin Verification Charges At $8 Monthly

The end of a week is simply a foreshadow of a new week yet to come, don’t let your weekend go by without catching up on what went down in the creative industry the past week. With the quest to keep your creative awareness on a hundred, this is me unveiling the first weekly Creative Roundup of November. Grab a cup of ice cream or a bottle of beer, let’s get right into it.

1. Elon Musk Announces Twitter To Begin Verification Charges At $8 Monthly

The new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, on Tuesday announced that the popular bird app ‘Twitter” will start charging users $8 monthly for its blue verification mark. The update comes days after Mr Elon Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of the company.

The upgrade seeks to house the following; verified accounts will get “priority in replies, mentions and search, ability to post long video and audio, and half as many ads”. The users can also bypass paywalls for “publishers willing to work with us,” he added. He said this will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators. “There will be a secondary tag below the name for someone who is a public figure, which is already the case for politicians,” Mr Musk said.

2. Popular Nigerian Musician Davido’s, Only Son Dies At Age 3

The 3-year-old son of David Adeleke Aka Davido and Chioma Rowland Aka Chefchi,  Ifeanyi Adeleke allegedly drowned in his father’s swimming pool in Banana Island, Lagos and was underwater for an unspecified period before he was spotted. This was confirmed by the police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyi, on Tuesday morning.

The sad news of the singer’s son’s death broke on social media late Monday after actress Eniola Badmus posted it on her Instagram of which she subsequently deleted the post. According to a high-ranking officer, six of the eight individuals arrested in connection to the case have been released, and two are still with the police. The two persons are his nanny and cook. The police officer said they were not officially arrested but were questioned on the charge of criminal negligence. After which they will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

3. Wizkid Postpones Album ‘More Love, Less Ego’ Amidst Recent Tragic Event

Nigerian megastar artist Wizkid is reported to have postponed the release of his much anticipated album ‘More Love, Less Ego’ .The postponement is in honour of the recent painful loss of the son of Davido’s son Ifeanyi whose sad passing has generated wide condolences from Nigerians, fans, colleagues, politicians, and individuals around the world.

Wizkid’s fifth album ‘More Love, Less Ego’ was set to be released at Midnight Thursday, 3rd November 2022. The album has seen the release of two singles ‘Bad To Me’ and ‘Money & Love’, which were released a week before the proposed album release. It’s uncertain the new date for Wizkid’s ‘More Love, Less Ego’ as on Apple Music it still indicates the earlier release date.

4.  Spotify Releases Documentary To Celebrate 10 Years Of Afrobeats Label, ‘YBNL’

Spotify, an online music streaming platform, has released a mini documentary to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Afro-beats label, “YBNL”, founded by Nigerian music icon, Olamide.
“Over the course of a decade, YBNL has developed a reputation for taking the sounds of the street to global ears through showcasing Afro-beats stars and producing definitive hits. They took to the streets of Lagos to hear people’s opinion on YBNL, and their response were amazing.

Since 2012, Olamide had discovered, developed and exported some of Nigeria’s brightest music stars through YBNL. Stars like Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Fireboy, Asake, Pheelz, Young Jonn, DJ Enimoney, Zlatan, Naira Marley, T.I Blaze, Ycee, Viktoh, Chinko Ekun, and many more.

5. Afro-beat Singer, Made Kuti, Has Engaged His Girlfriend, Inedoye

Multi talented Afro-beat singer and saxophonist Made Kuti. has took to his Instagram account late Tuesday, to announce his engagement to his love Inedoye. Excited that she accepted his proposal, Made said, “She said YES! @__inedoye Newest Fiancé and Fiancée in town 🙏🏿❤️ There’s a lot of pain in the world everyday. But sharing that pain and fighting for a better world with you makes it all worth living for. I can’t wait to see the future we build together. I love you ❤️.”

Quite many celebrities, including his father, Femi Kuti, congratulated them both. Made, Fela Kuti’s grandson is also a songwriter and instrumentalist. He released his debut album titled ‘Forward’ in 2021.

6. FG To Establish N3.5bn Space Museum In Abuja

The Minister of Science and Technology and Innovation, Adeleke Mamora, presented a memo to the council in respect of Public-Private Partnership brought by one of our agencies and that is NASRDA. “The memo is essentially to secure a partnership with a Nigerian private company on the upgrade, equipping and marketing of the space museum and planetarium which will cost about N3.5bn paid by the private company, leaving it at no cost to government; the project will last for about 15 years when, thereafter, it reverts to the Federal Government,”

The project would provide jobs for more than 200 people and provide an opportunity for learning experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The planetarium is a theatre built for the presentation of education and entertainment on space science.

Conclusion

10 Solid years into the game and YBNL never for once has disappoint, we are definitely lucky to have them in the music industry. Twitter is giving upgrade vibe and funnily, as a bird app user i’m anticipating it, especially with the facts that all verified members will have the privilege to avoid bots or scammed accounts, Make sense right?. I’d urge every parent with child(ren) at home to take precautions and child proof their homes to avoid bad unforeseen circumstances. May the soul of Ifeanyi Adeleke through the mercy of God rest in peace Amen.
