Don Jazzy is a big name in Nigeria and the diaspora. He’s like a musical detective, finding hidden talents and nurturing them to their total creative capacity for his record label Mavin Records. Let’s see how he discovered and guided Ayra Starr, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, and the exciting addition to the Mavin family, Lifesize Teddy. Learn about the creative power that comes from adequately harnessed talent.
1. Ayra Starr: From Model to Music Wonder
Once upon a time, Ayra Starr was into modelling, but her heart belonged to music. She sang covers of songs on Instagram, showing off her fantastic voice. Then, she sang an original song called “Damage,” guess what? Don Jazzy noticed and got excited! He saw her potential and offered to work with her. That’s how Ayra Starr joined Mavin Records. In January 2021, she released her first EP (a little collection of songs), and boom, she became a rising princess of Afrobeats.
2. Magixx: From Fun Videos to the Big Stage
Magixx loved making fun videos where he just sang and danced. Life was challenging after he finished school, but he kept making music videos to make ends meet. Don Jazzy saw his videos and thought, “This guy’s got something special!” So, he called Magixx over to Mavin Records, and guess what? Magixx’s dream came true! He made an EP with Mavin Records, showing everyone his relaxed style.
3. Boy Spyce: Dreams Come True, Even at Christmas
Boy Spyce wanted to work with Don Jazzy. One magical Christmas, Don Jazzy sent Boy Spyce a message on Instagram after seeing his videos and figuring out how to turn him from a raw talent to a professional singer. They talked, and Boy Spyce’s dream started coming true. Before that, Boy Spyce loved sharing his songs on social media.

4. Bayanni: Social Media Star Power
Bayanni was a smart cookie. He sang popular songs and shared them online, getting a lot of social media followers. He even sang his version of Davido’s “Jowo.” Davido himself saw it and liked it! There was a buzz about Bayanni joining Mavin Records, and guess what? It happened! Don Jazzy made an excellent video to tell everyone and Bayanni’s dreams soared. He released an EP and became part of the Mavin family.
5. Lifesize Teddy: Afro Fusion's Newest Gem
Mavin has excitedly unveiled another new artist for their fantastic lineup of talents, Lifesize Teddy. Born and bred in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Lifesize Teddy brings something different and refreshing with her brand of afro-fusion music. Her self-titled EP announced her entry into the Nigerian music scene.
