Creative Gist: What Is The Best Advice Someone Has Given You?

Most people receive advice when they are about to start a journey – whether they’re about to start school, camp, a drama, a relationship and/or their career life. It might be the advice from school that clarifies their career life. Or advice at a mature age that automatically makes their previous experiences make sense.

Either way, some of this advice stand out and would continually impact the lives of creatives. Even better, creatives can share them, spreading the effect of good advice to the receiving audience.

Our creatives on this episode share the best advice they’ve been given.

Kehinde Savage

Food Entrepreneur

It's the one that I give myself all the time. To never put unnecessary pressure on me and to take each day as it comes, one day at a time, because you never know what will happen tomorrow. So focus on the things you can control and are within your power. This is my mantra.

Ayomibosi Fatoki

Brand Influencer / Youtuber

"Choose your friends, don't let your friends choose you."
When I was in my early years at the university back in Nigeria, I had an inferiority complex, especially regarding ladies. As a result, I had lots of rejection from both friends and people I really liked. So I always thought I was at fault and wanted to be like what other people wanted me to be like, instead of myself.
So my dad told me this advice, and it stuck with me. Presently, I have overcome that situation; I choose my friends and don't allow them to pick me or make me, and so far, I have benefitted greatly from it.

The best advice I have been given is to be humble and true to myself.
It has gone a long way. Sometimes people try to walk over me, but I overcome such situations.

Sonibare Kayode

Writer and Poet

Do not undervalue yourself.

Mowasinuola Ogundiwin

Investment Banking Analyst

The best advice is to take myself and life seriously. To stop limiting myself - because I am a force to be reckoned with.
With this advice, I have started to take myself seriously. I now know what I am capable of, and I know how much of a force I can be when I put my mind to something. I know that when I do that, the results are always breathtaking.

  1. The best advices I’ve ever gotten from my Mum is to love myself dearly and to stay happy and positive in whatever environment or situation I find myself in..To stay consistent and committed and never to doubt or limit myself …. This has always kept me going

  2. The best advice I have been given was from my dad as a teenager, is to never depend on anyone to help me achieve my own goals. And he gave me the notion never to feel entitled to what my loved one’s can do for me. I should understand they do it out of love and I’m grateful for this advice.
